Marty spends a week in 1955 as the Doc prepares for the storm, and keeps busy by attempting to undo the damage he has caused from preventing the first meeting between his father and mother. Since plutonium is not available in 1955, the power surge needed to send the Delorean back to 1985 will have to come from the bolt of lightning expected to hit the clock tower. After managing to convince Doc Brown that he is from the future, the two hatch a plan to send Marty back to 1985.

The Doc originally chose November 5th, 1955 while showing off the time machine to Marty in 1985. Marty’s arrival in the past comes as a shock, and as he struggles to make sense of what’s just occurred, he locates Doc Brown. And since no one really knows just what to expect from the process itself, Bob Gale’s scripts provide an easily digestible insight into the concept of timelines and what it might mean to alter one’s past, present or future. Regardless of its flaws, the Back to the Future trilogy has arguably created three of the best films ever made about time travel. It isn’t until Back to the Future Part II, which splits its action between the past as well as the future that things really begin to get hectic.
